Functional Medicine and What It Means For You

functional-medicineAt American Regenerative Clinic, we have a holistic approach to medicine. We treat our patients as a whole rather than focusing on isolated symptoms. When treating a patient, our professional staff will review their lifestyle, diet, history and family history to make a recommendation when it comes to treatment. We prefer to treat our patients with functional medicine by reviewing treatment options that will address and heal the root cause of the illness.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a mind and body exploration to discover the root cause of illness in order to begin treating that root cause. The solution to a patient’s problem is often found by treating the patient from head to toe rather than a narrow focus on symptoms.

How does it Work?

This type of medicine requires the Doctor and patient to explore the genetic history, lifestyle, beliefs and overall physical and mental health. Doctors and patients will explore the history and lifestyle of the patient, and their family members, to uncover any long standing issues affecting the patient’s health.

Following this method requires the Doctor and patient to spend time together discussing the patient’s history. These conversations are meant to discover what may be causing the illness or disease. This approach is very different from traditional western medicine where appointments are short and there is very little interaction between Doctor and patient. What is the advantage to Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine allows a patient to examine how their thoughts, diet and genetic history impact their health as a whole. Functional medicine allows the patient to have a clear understanding of where their illness originated and how to treat their illness or disease.
