Prolotherapy Pros and Cons

Prolotherapy, also known as proliferation therapy, relieves chronic pain through an injection of an irritant solution, often a sugar called dextrose. This solution is deposited around an injured or diseased area of the body. The solution increases blood flow and inflammation, jumpstarting the healing process. Prolotherapy follows the notion that the body can heal itself, and the solution acts as a stimulant for the body to begin regenerating new tissues. This is a non-invasive, drug-free and safe procedure that takes about 2-8 sessions to work effectively.

Prolotherapy is used to heal damaged tendons, ligaments, joints or injury from aging or sports. It can also be used to alleviate back pain, tendonitis, joint pain, osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease and many more. The increase in inflammation in this process increases the blood supply to the area which causes nutrients to start flowing, this then stimulates tissue and repairs the body. Prolotherapy is great for strengthening weak joints and creating heightened muscle functionality, such as increased movement and flexibility. However, there are some risks involved, for example it is a shot like any other so there could be pain or tenderness to the injection site. There are also limited studies on the effectiveness of this therapy, though it has been shown to work there is always a risk in using limitedly researched methods.

Here at American Regenerative Clinic we care about our patients and strive to administer only the highest possible quality of care, from facials to lip and eye treatments and so much more.
